New record and tour coming 2015

I have a new record coming next year and I’ll be touring in Europe in April and May to promote it.

This record is a completely new, original and exciting record. 11 tracks, all original. All recorded completely live(except for the vocals). Every song was me, Calvin Turner-Bass and Lemar Carter-Drums, set up in the same room and tracking live. All solos are live. No overdubbed guitar parts.

We have amazing guests on this record(also live). Joe Bonamassa joins me for 7 minutes of guitar sparring on a new original called “Over Your Head”. Charlie Musselwhite adds his legendary harmonica(what on honor) to a straight Chicago blues style original called “You’ll Find Love” and my best friend  Kirk Fletcher and I had a blast paying tribute to our heroes on the albums lone instrumental, the new original track “And What?”.

New Vertex Effects Systems pedalboard, initial mockup!!!!!

A new pedalboard is being born right now. I’ve been planning this one for a while now. My good friend Mason at Vertex Effects Systems has received all my gear and mocked everything up for me and now we are ready for him to do his magic. Most you have seen my current amazing board Mason did. Its so powerful and so compact. I knew I wanted to make a board that would be a little bigger that would incorporate some of the capabilities I loved having in my Bradshaw rig. I couldn’t find the right small switcher with 10 loops and instant access switches anywhere until I found the amazing One Control Crocodile Tail looper. It has all the features and is pretty small. Now I can do midi switching and presets while still having instant access mode in a switcher with 10 loops… awesome!!

The pedal lineup for this board has some old standby’s and some new favorites. The chain will be as follows:

Vertex Interface w/Buffer and Master Bypass>One Control>loop 1 Lovepedal Believe Octave>loop 2 Lovepedal Silicon Fuzzmaster>loop 3 Lovepedal Tchula(of course, I can’t leave home without this)>loop 4 Interface patch in loop for Wah or any internal effect>loop 5 Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret>loop 6 MXR Phase 45>loop 7 Rockett JS Dual Trem(of course!)>loop 8 Catalinbread Echorec(amazing pedal, best new pedal I’ve gotten in a long time)>loop 9&10 Eventide H9 in stereo(This thing is amazing)>Back to Interface>Stereo out to amps

All powered by a Voodoo Labs 4×4 and a custom Vertex Batter box so I can use carbon batteries for the 4 dirt pedals. Can’t Wait!!!!!!!

Check out these great tour reviews!

Josh has been getting some rave reviews from his European tour this past November.  Check out what people have had to say!

“… the great discovery of the Lucerne Blues Festivals 2012 is called Josh Smith. Live on stage, the musician from California presented his haunting songs, produced in a highly contemporary style … on his album “Don’t Give Up On Me,” considerably more earthy, bluesy and dynamic, sending his audience into raptures with his carefree attitude and freshness. Haunting wind section parts, a tough rhythm section and Smith’s dynamic, emotional guitar were the ingredients of an outstanding  concert.

… Josh Smith is rightly considered one of the most diverse blues rock guitarists and one of the great discoveries of recent years. … His sharply accentuated single-note style is perfection, his fingers flying across the six strings in his technically accomplished style … Music with the kind of power and attitude that is difficult to find these days.… Josh Smith proves that blues music is still very much alive. If this man was a parish priest – his church would definitely be full every Sunday. An amazingly confident performance!

As a string artist, Smith operates in a class of his own, casting a spell with his total grasp of melodies and unexpectedly harmonic turns, as well as a clear and precise Telecaster sound which has no peer, never allowing a minute’s boredom even in extended solo passages. … if the future of guitar music sounds like Smith’s Tele and Morgan amps, there’s no reason to worry about the coming years., Frank Ipach, 20 Nov 2012
